5 Things I Recommend for Your Newborn Session in Phoenix | Olivia Grace Photography.
As an Experienced Newborn Photographer in Phoenix, I Recommend These 5 Things
After 11 years of photographing newborns, I’ve noticed that the families who enjoy their sessions the most tend to do a few of the same things. None of them are complicated, and none of them cost anything extra. They just make the day softer, and a lot more fun.
If you’re expecting in Phoenix and starting to plan your newborn photos, here’s what I tell every family.
1. Book Before the Baby Arrives
This is the one I repeat the most. Newborn sessions are best done in the first couple of weeks, and that window closes fast.
I suggest reserving your session in your second or early third trimester. We don’t choose the exact date until your baby is here, because babies rarely follow instructions. I simply hold space around your due date, so when your little one arrives, we already have a spot waiting.
It also takes one thing off your list. You can bring the baby home, rest, and send me a message when you’re ready.
2. Plan for a Slow, Unrushed Session
A newborn session isn’t something to squeeze between errands. Babies need time to eat, settle, stretch, and sometimes just look around.
I build that time into every session, and I’d encourage you to do the same with your schedule. Don’t plan anything right before or after. When nobody is watching the clock, the baby picks up on the calm, and the photos show it.
3. Keep Your Baby Warm and Comfortable
Phoenix has its own challenges, and summer heat is one of them. Newborns need to be kept warm for sessions, and the studio is set up to be cozy and comfortable year-round.
A few things that help:
Dress your baby in something loose and easy to remove. Skip tight waistbands and snaps that leave marks on soft skin. Bring your own comfort items. A pacifier, a favorite blanket, or a bottle if you use one. They often become useful tools during the session.
4. Don’t Stress About What to Wear
Outfits are the question I hear most, so here’s the short answer: keep it simple, I will help you to find the best for you.
For your baby, you don’t need to buy anything. I have everything we will need, outfits, wraps, blankets, and soft layers in neutral, natural tones, and all the color palette you can imagine so there’s nothing to shop for.
For you, your partner, and any siblings, soft solid colors and gentle textures work beautifully. Think creams, soft grays, warm tones, and muted greens. Avoid big logos or busy patterns, and don’t worry about matching perfectly. I’ll help you coordinate before the session so everyone looks like they belong in the same photograph, without looking like a uniform.
5. Let Go of the Perfect Plan
This is the hardest one, and the one that matters most.
Your baby might sleep through the whole session. They might give us ten minutes of wide-open eyes. They might love being wrapped, or decide they’d much rather stretch out. All of that is completely normal, and all of it becomes part of their story.
I never push a pose that isn’t working. We follow your baby’s lead, we move on when something doesn’t feel right, and we find what does. Some of my favorite images came from moments nobody planned: a yawn, a tiny fist, a sibling leaning in at just the right second.
Why Phoenix Families Choose Olivia Grace Photography
I specialize in natural, baby-led newborn photography. That means I guide you through everything, so you don’t need to know how to pose, and I work around your baby’s comfort instead of forcing a set list of poses.
Years from now, I want you to look at these photographs and recognize your baby, and remember exactly how those first days felt.
If you’re due soon, or even just beginning to think about it, I’d love to hear from you.
